$230.00

This was part of a series of 4 monochromatic works made as studies for Else in 2023/2024. I was interested in tonal relationships and wanted to try my hand at grissaille techniques .these are old master oil painting techniques where colour is applied to a monochromatic underpainting in thin layers. I wanted to these make monochromatic and use thin layers of transparent colour, building intensity with layers rather than hue. I wanted to see how/if i could recreate the quality of colour we see on screens - the luminosity of it is hard to recreate in hue. it’s not only a matter of mixing the colour correctly- there’s another quality of colour going on.

This is a favourite work of mine! I have an emotional attachment to works which represent breakthroughs in my practice and these 2 are that to me.

23cms x 24.5cms (ish)

Oil on Marine Plywood. Ready to hang. this work is hang cut and may not be a square/rectangle. the wonk is part of the charm.
